what happens next

I have trained as a counsellor and psychotherapist for six years, as a certified integrative psychotherapist (IIPA) and with a diploma in therapeutic counselling accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also trained and continuing my development in emotionally focused couple work. As a registered member of BACP I work using this professional organisation's code of ethics as a framework. This informs my practice in terms of confidentiality, supervision and professional conduct as well as protecting you as a client. You can find out more on the website. I am also a counselling trainer.

If you would like to contact me by email or telephone, I can answer any questions you may have about my work. If we agree to meet, it can be decided where will suit you best, and we can make an initial appointment. Alternatively, we can make it by Skype or FaceTime. You will be able to decide if I seem to be someone you could work with for counselling and I will be able to assess whether I am qualified to give you the support you need. At this point we may agree to work for a number sessions and will discuss some of the details of time, place and fees. If I cannot help you, I may be able to suggest another source of support or referral.

I am interested in you and your story and aim to provide a safe time and space for you to express what is on your mind. I hope to help you by listening carefully and without judgement, so that together we may be able to understand what you are going through. Sometimes by offering a new perspective, I can help you to shift from feeling stuck, or unable to move forward. Sometimes the experience of being heard is useful in itself to alleviate confusion, anxiety or depression. I hope to help you understand and be yourself.

My interest in nature as a therapeutic force has helped me to develop another form of counselling which may appeal to those who love the great outdoors. For some of us, it is not easy to sit face-to-face talking, and for others there is a releasing effect from the movement and exercise of walking. I am able to offer Walk and Talk counselling either from Brixham or Totnes. An initial session would take place first, in the usual way. Prices and session length to be discussed individually.
